There is a family called Matsumura in Tsuchiura, Ibaraki Prefecture. The family hosts flight cadets every weekend. Students spend time discussing the life of a pilot and go through a rigorous program. The children of the Matsumura family listen in and one of them becomes a pilot himself. He will go to war as a pilot and kamikaze something which made the movie itself popular with actual and aspiring Japanese World War II pilots. The film was co-financed by the Imperial Japanese Navy.—aghaemi
A local family' house also serves as a gathering place for air force cadets. The family's boy is weak and often unhealthy. The boy wants to become a pilot as well given how he is exposed to the cadets every week. He tries to become stronger and eligible. The boy and the trainees inspire one another.—aghaemi
