Every year in over 300 villages in Tamilnadu, India. The Mahabharata is performed as a village festival. For 20 days, and 20 hours per day, the epic is narrated as story, performed as village rituals, and enacted right through the night as theater.The Mahabharata is seen as an anti-war text and what is being performed here is a doubled text, it is both the epic, Mahabharata, it is also simultaneously a record of the wars the people of the region had gone through. The festival celebrates the resilience of the people and their will to live through extremely troubled times. The film is an attempt to present this festival from an insiders perspective, presenting the viewer of the experience of participating in this grand event.
