A psychiatrist is intrigued by the case of a mentally disturbed man who is looking for his lost love, a woman who bears an uncanny resemblance to the psychiatrist herself. In this story everyone has a secret.

A violent and mentally disturbed man called Karan (Rishi Kapoor) breaks into the home of psychiatrist Dr Sapna Mathur (Sridevi). When he sees her, he calls her "Madhu." Karan is soon apprehended and returns home with his father I.G. Suryakant Verma. Sapna is asked to consult on the case and is shown photos of the object of Karan's obsession. Aside from eye-color, this mysterious Madhu is identical in appearance to Dr Sapna. Intrigued, Sapna begins to pose as Madhu and takes Karan to locations he visited with his love. Slowly, Karan is able to control his violent temper and becomes clear-headed, and Sapna begins to fall in love with her patient. But where and who is Madhu?
