During the French colonial wars in North America, a Mohawk woman converts to Christianity against the wishes of her clan.

In 1666, after 50 years of war, a large French military force enters Mohawk territory and burns their villages. In the bitter peace that follows, French Jesuit missionaries enter Mohawk villages for the first time. In one of those villages is a young woman. Orphaned and disfigured by smallpox, adopted by the clan chief, she must choose between her traditional ways and the new religion brought by the missionaries.
