Kalle Karlsson grows up in a poor home in Jularbo. He is a talented accordion player from the age of 5 and accompanies his father, a traveling salesman, increasing the sales with his accordion playing. When he grows up he falls in love with Inger, a girl next door, but she doesn't think playing the accordion is a respectable profession.
