Li is a well-respected soldier for an immense Yakuza gumi (Japanese organized crime syndicate). Plagued by the past and driven by a sense of duty and honor, he lives each day expecting and ready to die. The only two people he cares about are his Grandmother, who raised him, and his brother, who hates him because of what he does. One night, Bess, a beautiful blue-haired employee at Li's favorite sushi bar, is accosted by a venomous ex-boyfriend. Observing this, Li springs into action and saves Bess from her brutal assailant. Indebted to Li, Bess asks him out and Li accepting, a relationship blossoms. Li seesaws between doing work for the Yakuza and getting to know Bess. But soon she discovers what he does for a living, as he realizes that his priorities are changing, that he wants to live life. He wants out.
