Summaries

Charles Masson, an advertising executive, is having an affair with Laura, the wife of his best friend, the architect François Tellier. Charles strangles Laura when one of their S&M games goes too far. Dazed, Charles walks out of the borrowed apartment in Paris and soon bumps into François in a nearby bistro. They drive back together to Versailles, where they have beautiful neighboring houses designed by François. The owner of the apartment had seen Laura and Charles together two months earlier, but she does not tell the police on the advice of François. Even though the police do not seem to have any clues to the crime, Charles has a difficult time coping with the situation, and trying to live a normal life with his two children and loving wife Hélène.—Will Gilbert

In Paris, the owner of an advertisement agency, Charles Masson, accidentally strangles his mistress Laura Tellier during sexual sadomasochism. Laura is the wife of Charles's best friend for twenty-five years, the architect François Tellier, who designed his house and is his neighbor in the condo where they live. Charles is also a family man, and adores his wife Hélène Masson, his two children and his mother. Charles has difficulties to sleep, completely disturbed with what has happened, and decides to reveal what he did to Hélène. She accepts his confession, but he decides to tell François that he strangled his wife. However, François accepts and asks his friend to forget the murder. The police have no clue of who committed the murder, but Charles tells Hélène that he will tell the police and surrender, and asks his wife to agree.
