Dave, Mary Heath's brother, is accidentally killed in a gambling den. Her sweetheart, John Trevor, discovers that the den is secretly owned by his mother, whom he has considered to be independently wealthy. John denounces his mother, despite the fact that the money she earned supported him in college. As Dave was the head of the Heath household, John, feeling responsible for the boy's death, offers himself as a replacement.
