In 1886, the 20-year-old Percy Fitzpatrick sets out from Cape Town for the Transvaal to dig for gold. On his way, he prevents the weakly puppy Jock from being drowned and adopts him. But after they finally reach their destination, there's no gold anymore. 20-year-old Percy Fitzpatrick hears about the Eastern Transvaal gold rush and sets out from Cape Town in hopes of making his fortune. He becomes a transport rider bringing in supplies from Delagoa Bay (now Maputo) and comes across a runt puppy and saves its life and christens it Jock.
