Jaswinder "Jazz" Singh (Saif Ali Khan) lives and parties in London. He is a real estate agency owner. A 40-year-old carefree, middle-aged man who spends most of his time at parties with beautiful women. He parties at night in a bar owned by his friend Rajendra "Rocky" Sharma (Chunky Pandey), usually taking whichever girl agrees to go to his home for a one-night stand.Rhea (Kubbra Sait) is Jazz's hairdresser, and he confides everything in her.
Jazz's mom (Farida Jalal) is not supportive of his free-wheeling lifestyle. Jazz is very clear that he does not want to have a family of his own. He values his freedom.Jazz & his brother Dimpy (Kumud Mishra) are putting together the biggest deal of his life by convincing owners of an old apartment block to sell their apartments to a developer named Grover (Diljohn Singh) who is paying Jazz big commission of 4% (when the usual rate is 2%) for this task. Grover is offering 300,000 pounds per apartment, even though the market value is 200,000 pounds. All owners, except one, agree in a joint meeting.
One owner is holding out who has 3 apartments in the block, including the one that Jazz stays in. His aged landlady Mallika Zaid (Kamlesh Gill) refuses to part with her home due to an old tree in the apartment complex, and his repeated attempts to convince her to give it up for the new construction do not succeed.
One night, Jazz is partying as usual when a girl spills her drink on him; she apologizes, and he carries on.The next day, 21-year-old Tia (Alaya Furniturewala) approaches Jazz in a bar, and he thinks she is "picking" him up. Jazz takes Tia home and learns that she is a translator and has applied for a job in Paris. Tia lives in Amsterdam with her mother, who she says is very happy with her life.
Jazz learns from her that he is one of three possible options for her father, based on a photograph of Tia's mother with him. One of the 3 options is dead and the other lives in Paris. When she tells him that she might be his daughter, he is aghast, but she advises him to take a DNA test to confirm the results. When the results arrive, it transpires that not only is Tia Jazz's daughter, but she also happens to be pregnant.
Tia requests to stay with Jazz for a few days till she can figure out what to do next. The father of her baby is her ex-boyfriend who wanted his freedom more. Tia decides to have her baby delivered in London. A shocked Jazz initially refuses to accept the truth; when Tia offers to stay with him and deliver her baby at his home, he refuses, saying that he cannot take on the responsibility of running a family. Jazz asks her to go back to Amsterdam.
So, Tia rents an apartment in the same block where Jazz stays (it's the same block that he is trying to evacuate for his big property project). He consults his hairdresser friend Rhea (Kubbra Sait), who is his age, for advice. She congratulates him and advises him to confront his being not only a father but also an impending grandfather. His reckless partying ways continue at personal expense, as once he falls from a bar table, drunk, and breaks his leg. His feelings for Rhea grow, but when he tries to make a sexual advance, she stops him and asks him to restrain himself from ruining their friendship.
Tia meets Dimpy and Jazz's parents. Jazz's mom thinks that Tia is Dimpy's girlfriend and then figures out that Tia is pregnant. She thinks Dimpy is having an extra marital affair and is about to have a kid with another young girl. Jazz then has to tell everybody the truth and they all accept Tia into their heart with open minds. Meanwhile Jazz starts going out with Rhea.
Tia moves in with Jazz. Jazz and Dimpy keep failing to convince Mrs Malika and then Jazz deploys Tia to convince her, which she does. Mrs Malika's only condition is that the tree in the courtyard should be kept as is. Tia makes Jazz promise the same
Now out of the blue Tia's mom Ananya (Tabu) and her boyfriend Rohan (Dante Alexander) come from Amsterdam to be with Tia. Ananya is a hippie and wants Tia to have a home birth. Ananya and Rohan's hippie, drug-fueled, wanton ways are too much for Jazz to handle, and he fears that this may impact Tia's delivery. Jazz puts his foot down that his grandchild will be born in a hospital.
Tia then finds that the developers of the property have no intention of saving the tree as Jazz had promised. Jazz confronts her and attempts to convince her that the millions to be gained from the property will more than compensate for the lost tree, she tells him tearfully that he can't be her father, having not even an iota of emotion and attachment within himself. She is super angry & leaves with Ananya back to Amsterdam.
The Jazz finds that Rocky had a stroke and is now in the hospital with no-one to take care of him. Jazz realizes that with Tia he is making a mistake. A despondent Jazz ponders over whether the deal is really worth aggrieving an old lady, before he finally decides to call off the Hounslow project, even at the expense of money, to which Dimpy agrees. He then rushes to the Waterloo railway station where the three are waiting for their train; he proceeds to tell how he canceled the deal and saved Mallika's tree, when Tia's water breaks suddenly.
The film ends with Rhea and Rocky joining the Singh family at Jazz's parents' home for Diwali celebrations. Jazz whispers into baby Kiara's ears that she will be the world's first baby to witness the wedding of both her parents and her grandfather, as Tia looks on happily.
