At the start of the 1980s, Pierre Durand abandoneda promising legal careerand threw himself into his true passion, showjumping. With his fathersbacking, he gambled everything on a young horse whono one else had anyfaith in: Jappeloup. Too small, too stubborn, too impetuous, he had manyfaults, but nonetheless had a remarkable jumping ability. From competitionto competition, the pair improved and began to maketheir mark on theshowjumping world. But the Los Angeles Olympic Games were a disasterfor them, and Pierre had to face up to his shortcomings. With the help of hiswife Nadia and groom Raphaëlle, Pierre regained Jappeloups confidenceand built a relationship that took them to victoryin the Seoul Olympics in1988.
