A story about families who migrated from Trivandrum to Malabar region of Kerala in search of land.
This is the story about the land and the men. 30 years ago, some families migrated from Trivandrum to Malabar in search of land. Some were adventurous, others were cheats and fugitives from the law but among them, there were a few good men too. Mathai (Kottarakkara Sridharan Nair) was one such person. He brought with him his wife Maria (T.R. Omana), his daughter Thresya and his two young sons. The eldest son Johnny (Madhu) who was for some time in the Army preceded him to Wayanad - Malabar. They settled on a plot of wild land, with the hope of making it fertile. This intrusion by outsiders was vehemently opposed by the local Nambiar (Janardanan), the shop-owner and Usman (Manavalan Joseph), the school teacher. However, Pillai (S.P. Pillai), the shop-assistant and Mohammed, a local Muslim had tolerant views. Malaria soon took away the youngest son of Mathai while the elder one was swept away by the river. The daughter lost her power of speech. In her anguish and sorrow, the mother came out of the house at night and never returned. However, Mathai didn't lose his balance of mind or good nature. Meantime, war broke out and there was a scarcity of food in the village. Mathai had enough food with him as the tapioca yield from the land was very high. But he decides to forego the immense profit he could have made by selling tapioca to the wholesale dealer from the city. He distributes tapioca to the starving villagers. Ultimately, all the communities realize that they have to live together in harmony and peace and thus a new society is created where the Muslim, the Hindu and the Christian are one.
