At a dinner party given by Webb Standish, Austin Crane, an author of detective fiction, is accused of writing improbable stories. Eve, Webb's daughter, shares Crane's belief that his stories can be duplicated in reality. Accordingly, Crane fabricates a case to prove that Standish is a profiteer, discovers that he is really guilty, but for Eve's sake hesitates to expose him. His editor insists that he continue the game, however; and entering Standish's home with a former crook, Spike Dawson, Crane obtains incriminating evidence.—AFI
