A contemporary adaptation of Romeo and Juliet set in the backdrop of Varanasi in the UP heartland, complete with naxalism, sand mining mafia and of course the timeless love story.
An original Indian adaptation of William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet directed by Manish Tiwary. The story is transposed to Banaras and its neighboring areas that are witness to violence unleashed by sand mafia controlled by urban elite and equally violent retaliation by Naxalite armies.
The sand mafia is run by two influential Banarasi families, Kashyaps and Mishras, who are at brutal feud with each other. Vishwanarayan Kashyap is taking the excuse of Naxals creeping into the city to eliminate the Manohar Mishra gang members.
Panchayat Minister Surya Pratap Singh (Yuri Suri) wants Mishra and Kashyap to resolve their feud and not allow it to interfere with good business. Murari (Amit Sial) is the Minister's nephew. Surya warns Mishra and Kashyap that he would withdraw his support from both if they do not bury their differences.The Kashyap family is winning the feud, and it seems like there is nobody in the Mishra family capable of giving them an appropriate response.
Kashyap (Sudhir Pandey) has an 18-year-old, pretty and innocent daughter Bachchi (Amyra Dastur) from his first wife. Amma (Neena Gupta) is Bachchi's maid. Kashyap's brother-in-law Teetas (Ravi Kissen) is the strong man of the Kashyap family.Teetas has an army of goons that have developed their control over the sand banks of the city and also control the fleet of trucks used to transport the sand to various parts of the country. Teetas hates the Mishra family, whom he blames for the death of his sister, who was also Kashyap's first wife.
On the other hand, Mishra's (Sandeep Bose) son Rahul (Prateik Babbar) is a good-looking teenager with predictable interests for a boy of his background - Girls & Guns! Rahul has sex with Rosa (Evelyn Sharma), who is a foreigner hippie addict, by supply her with drugs.Murari is also Rahul's friend.
Nazalite armies led by Banwari (Prashant Narayanan) are trying to take advantage of the feud between Mishra's & Kashyap's to take control of the sand business.Kashyap wants to marry off Bachchi to DCP's son Preetam (Prashantt Guptha) & this match has Teetas's blessings. Teetas is now having an affair with Kashyap's second wife Paro (Rajeshwari Sachdev).
Preetam has recently been commissioned in the Police force. Kashyap gives a Holi party to introduce Preetam to Bachchi. Bachchi does not believe in arranged marriage and wants to fall in love with the man before she marries him.Rahul gets wind of the event and decides to infiltrate and attend the party as Rosa is also going to be there. Rosa is Bachchi's friend.
Rahul gets into the party and pursues Rosa inside the house but finds Bachchi instead. Rahul ends up kissing Bachchi. Teetas discovers Rahul in the house and wants to kill him, but Kashyap knows that this will only escalate things and lead to bloodshed. Kashyap publicly humiliates Teetas by saying that it is his house, and his orders.
Things change when the battle-hardened and pleasure-seeking Rahul and romantic yet head strong Bachchi fall in love. Rahul consults his guide Baba (Makrand Deshpande) who advises Rahul against pursuing Bachchi.Rahul pursues Bachchi and soon she agrees to go out with him. Bachchi is attracted to Rahul since he is fearless and does what he pleases.
Teesta is livid when Murari and his uncle allocate a sand contract to the Mishra family. Banwari attacks the Mishra sand bank with his Naxal army and forces Rahul to retreat. In the ensuing chaos, men from both sides are killed and Rahul drops his gun while escaping.As the tensions in their house escalates, Preetam provides evidence of Rahul's involvement in the gang wars & related murders. He produces a revolver that was licensed to Rahul & found at a particular murder scene.
Bachchi confronts Rahul, who says that he has left the life of violence behind.Bachchi steals the evidence & gives it to Rahul to try and save him. Preetam is unaware of Bachchi and Rahul's affair. Meanwhile Rosa reveals to Bachchi that Rahul used to be her lover. Bachchi tells Rahul that she trusts him and loves him.
Meanwhile Teetas continues to attack Banwari's sand mafia locations in the city and disrupt his operations.
Teetas finds Rahul & Bachchi roaming the streets together & figures out their affair. Rahul & Bachchi get married in secret, but Teetas figures out and attacks. Rahul wants to diffuse the situation, but Banwari provides the spark by shooting at Teetas. Teetas thinks that Rahul is attacking & shoots, killing Rahul's friend Murari. Rahul fires, killing Teetas when Teetas threatens to kill Bachchi for marrying Rahul.
Baba tells Rahul to leave town, but he refuses to give up Bachchi. Rahul goes to Kashyap house and enters Bachchi's room secretly and spends the night with her. The next morning Paro sees Rahul escaping from Bachchi's room.Rahul reaches out to Paro and says that he did not shoot at Teetas, and that his death is part of a bigger conspiracy to eliminate the 2 families.
Preetam, who is an inspector himself, orders a lock-down of the city & figures Rahul's location by torturing his aides. He then relays this information to Banwari & gets the Naxals to attack Rahul, in exchange of Naxals getting full control of the sand mafia with police protection. Naxals attack, but Rahul escapes.
Preetam forces Kashyap to move forward the date of the wedding. When Rahul comes to know, he comes of his hideout & is followed by Banwari. Rahul is made to believe that Bachchi committed suicide & he promptly eliminates Preetam and Banwari. But Bachchi had simply taken some herbs (given to her by Baba) to put herself in deep slumber, with a lower temperature and a lower heartbeat for 24 hours, to avoid the wedding with Preetam.Thinking Bachchi is dead, Rahul kills himself. When Bachchi wakes up, she finds Rahul dead and kills herself as well. Issaq.
