Synopsis

Rajiv (Shahid Kapoor) wants to be one of the popular kids of his Spencer college. However, due to the lack of a girlfriend, Danny (Shabhi]) and Javed (Kapil Jhaveri) mock him.Javed has organized a midnight picnic at his parent's farmhouse in Alibaug, but only couples are invited. This is "The" college event of the year and Rajiv wants to be there.

Rajiv's friend, Rocky, suggests that he date Payal for a short period and then break up with her as he does not have anyone to accompany him to the vacation. Nevertheless, Rocky helps Rajiv befriend Payal.

Rajiv lives with his parents Mr. Mathur (Satish Shah) and Mrs. Mathur (Neelima Azim). Kamlabai (Upasana Singh) is the lusty maid of their household. Priya is their daughter and Rajiv's sister.

Rajiv decides to ask Payal (Amrita Rao) to become his girlfriend and tells her that he's in love with her. Rajiv was reluctant earlier since Payal has a "Behenji" image in the college and misses the "cool" factor. Payal is always decently dressed and doesn't get too friendly with boys and maintains her distance. But Rajiv has no other options. Rajiv always wanted a hot girlfriend and wanted that people in college should feel jealous when he arrives with her. Rajiv's friend Mambo tries to explain that Payal loves Rajiv, but he does not believe that this is important.

Rajiv sees Payal on Desi Day, when everyone at college was supposed to wear an ethnic dress. Payal was looking specifically ravishing, but in an elegant way. Rajiv decides to express his "feelings" to Payal, with the help of Rocky.Payal returns Rajiv's "feelings" and agrees, as she has always been in love with him since their school days. She gets offended when she learns that Rajiv is not willing to accept their relationship in front of his friends. Rajiv has the midnight picnic as his ultimate goal, and publicly acknowledges his relationship with Payal to assuage her feelings.

When Rajiv visits Payal's home, he realizes that she has been in love with him since her childhood and maintains a scrapbook of all his major milestones in life.Payal even keeps a KarvaChauth fast for Rajiv and is really emotional about him. Payal only wants Rajiv's happiness.

On the day of the vacation, and after some persuasion, Payal is allowed by her father to go.Rajiv & Payal accompany Danny, Javed and their girlfriends to a midnight picnic. However, Rajiv's drink is laced by Danny and being intoxicated, he tries to get intimate with Payal. Payal pushes Rajiv back and slaps him. Rajiv insults Payal by saying that she was nothing in college, until he put her on the map by making her his girlfriend.

Danny and Javed's girlfriend attempt to explain to Payal that Rajiv wasn't at fault and that his behavior was caused by Danny. Payal apologies to Rajiv, though he refuses to forgive her and makes her kiss him to prove their love. Payal refuses, as she believes that such a gesture isn't necessary.Mambo (Vishal Malhotra), Rajiv's best friend does not like this, and he also breaks up with Rajiv. Mambo secretly liked Payal, but never made his feelings transparent. Mambo consoles Payal and promises to be there for her, and the two become close. Despite the breakup, a deeply hurt Payal still has feelings for Rajiv.Soon after, Alisha Sahay (Shenaz Treasurywala), a stylish and hot girl, starts at Spencer College.

Rajiv is smitten by Alisha and manages to woo her with the help of his friend Love Guru Rocky (Yash Tonk). Rocky is known in the college for having all knowledge about any particular girl and their likes, dislikes and daily schedules.Rocky tells Rajiv that Alisha is a big fan of Sachin Tendulkar. So, Rajiv hires a Sachin look-alike to impress Alisha. Alisha notices Rajiv and gets close to him.Alisha has expensive tastes and Rajiv has to borrow money from friends to take her on dates. Alisha is also more open to get physical with Rajiv.

Meanwhile, Rajiv's former best friend Mambo and Payal become close, but Payal still cares a lot for Rajiv and is silently hurt at seeing Alisha and Rajiv together. Nevertheless, she continues to talk to him and wish him on his birthday, and Rajiv is taken aback by the fact that it was Payal and not Alisha who bothered to wish him first of all, as Alisha was busy with her modeling shoot.

At his birthday party, Mambo and Rajiv come to blows because of Payal, and Alisha slowly starts disliking Payal. The final straw is when Alisha sees Rajiv and Payal talking, and she comes to know that both of them were together before she entered the college, and she confronts Payal and behaves rudely with her, and accuses her of stealing her boyfriend.Mambo tries to defend Payal, and Alisha puts him off, which infuriates him. Rajiv and Mambo get into a fist fight.

At Alisha's flat, Rajiv is unable to think of anything else but how Payal loved him, and he let her go, and how after their breakup too, she still cared for him, and the recent fight. But when Alisha hugs Rajiv, he imagines Alisha to be Payal, and accidentally says 'I love you, Payal,'

At the last day of the college party, Rajiv apologizes to Mambo with a thought that Mambo was planning to propose to Payal, but then realizes his mistake as Payal still loves him.Rajiv takes the mike, and publicly apologizes to Payal, and tells her he loves her a lot, even though she might not believe him.

Payal is still angry with him and tells him that despite doing a drama in front of everyone and proclaiming his love for her is not going to make her relent.Rajiv stands still in front of her and gazes pleadingly into her eyes, and Payal is convinced that Rajiv does love her. The movie ends with a happy Rajiv and Payal. Alisha arrives at the party, and after seeing Rajiv and Payal dancing, she realizes that only Rajiv and Payal can be with each other. She apologizes to Payal for her mistreatment of her and conveys her regards to the pair.
