Detective Mike Lorenzo and his partner Diane Loveland are given a small collection of ancient and rare coins by a confidential informant. After the informant kills himself, the coins are taken back to the evidence locker. Within 24 hours, a group of professional killers have raided the police station the coins were located at, taken the coins, and left a trail of bodies. Knowing that the killers were hired by Collin Donovan, Detective Lorenzo begins a long journey to bring down the powerful businessman. Meanwhile, the killers learn that the project they have been protecting is a science experiment designed to view past events. The killer's loyalties split as the quest for power and the hunger for the project leads half of them to betray the others.
