Synopsis

IN SEARCH OF A BLESSED LIFE - He That Hath, is a faith-based feature film created to spearhead an ongoing series. The story takes place in Ghana, West Africa and centers around two families: The Mensahs and The Johnsons.

The movie begins with the celebration of two Ghanaian boys, ALEX and JAMES Mensah who have just graduated college with a Masters Degree. James was born and raised in England by his Ghanaian parents, until they were both killed in a car accident when he was 14 years of age. James was immediately flown back to Ghana and adopted by Adowa Mensah (his mother's sister) and her husband Frank Mensah. By the opening of the movie, James has been raised by Mr. and Mrs. Mensah, along with their only child, Alex, for the past ten years. The two boys are in their early twenties. James is a hard-working, loner type. His passion is cooking hamburgers and experimenting with new culinary ideas. His dream is to market his burger into a popular franchise. Alex is a handsome, boyish and charismatic, charmer. He is an IT wiz, but is not interested in a long corporate climb, he is looking for fast money and adventure.

At the opening of the movie, although at his own graduation dinner, James is busy passing around his home-made hamburgers. Alex is enjoying the party, chilling with his girlfriend and their friends. MARK, Alex's affluent seeming friend, is bank-rolling the graduation party, holding court with Alex and friends. Mark appears to be "Living the good life", he has no formal job other than "handling business" for his seldom seen boss, MR. T. We get a sense that things are not as 'easy-going' as Mark tries to make them appear, when we spot him being surreptitiously escorted out of the party by one of Mr. T's henchmen. Although Alex is one of the few who notice, it does not prevent Alex trying to persuade Mark to introduce him to Mr. T in the hopes Mr. T will also hire him. The graduation party culminates with the boys' parents making a speech on the stage. Their father, Frank Mensah, is a robust, successful farmer, who has worked his way from village to big city. He admonishes his two sons to 'work hard and save big'. Encouraged by his wife, Adwoa Mensah, who holds her charming son, Alex as her most favored possession, the parents gift the two boys keys to their own apartment as their graduation present.

The story then picks-up one year late. The boys are now living together in their apartment but slowly veering more and more along differing paths. James continues to work relentlessly to get his burger business off the ground. He suffers a series of disappointments, but is determined not to quit. Alex is finally successful in his quest to work for Mr. T. He is good at the 'business' Mr. T assigns to him, and money begins to fall into his hands. His girlfriend of 4 years leaves him as he gets more and more involved in the 'underbelly' of life. Meanwhile James, on one of his free burger handouts at a shopping mall, meets the affluent and well-known business tycoon, MR. DANIEL JOHNSON and his pretty daughter, GRACIELA JOHNSON, who works as her father's event planner. Mr. Johnson is a suave, confident man at the pinnacle of his success. His full contentment is hampered by his longing for his wife, MRS. JUANITA JOHNSON. Juanita Johnson, is a vivacious, well known, much traveled International News Broadcaster. Once passionately in love with her husband, she left him due to his 'indiscretion'. She currently lives between her homes in Ghana and London with their only son, Herman, who unlike Graciela, opted to move to London with their mother. To James' delight, upon her father's request, Graciela gives him her WhatsApp. He is later too shy to call her, which is remedied by his brother Alex who seizes James' phone, dials Graciela's number, and hands it back for James to talk. Cutting through the awkwardness of their conversation, Graciela invites James on a date. He gets there only to find she's invited him to her prayer-group meeting. However, the spark between them results in Graciela becoming his first ever girlfriend. She introduces him to a Christian book "He That Hath" which she explains "Is the secret to my Dad's success". James uses the book as his key - Mr. Johnson likes James and offers him both wisdom and chance to pitch his burgers and business plan to a high-end investors' event he is hosting at a private club. At the end of the movie James finally walks through that door of "opportunity" ready to enter the next level in his life. However, juxtapose to his imminent ascension, we witness his brother Alex fall deeper and deeper into a world of women, debt and violence. The day of James' best business news, is the day Alex calls him desperate for help - he is being held captive. He has sold their apartment and needs James to bring the money from the sale in exchange for his release...

The pursuit of wealth comes at a cost!

FOOT NOTE: Towards the end of the "He That Hath" pilot film, another book, "Forgiveness Made Easy" is introduced. This introduction of a new book, by a Christian author, will continue throughout the film series. Various topics of faith and living in a challenging world will be highlighted according to what the main characters or guest star roles are going through in their lives. The aim of each chosen books is to provoke dialogue, heal, comfort, and inspire. PageTurner Productions currently has the rights to over 100 Christian books to use in the continuing saga of the Mensahs and the Johnsons.
