There's more to life than what you post on social media.
IRL is the story of four individuals at different stages of life. Charlie, the privileged millennial who's trying to define herself by her online presence is the daughter of Jackie, a high-powered, type-A executive who keeps choosing the job over her relationships. James, a quiet college professor is mourning the loss of his soulmate wife, Rose, but continues to communicate with her ghost. His struggle to let go is made harder by the constant check ins from his loving, but overprotective younger sister, Tricia. Along with the constant concern for her brother, Tricia is trying to balance her work life as a junior exec at a big firm with her personal choices after sleeping with a co-worker. This story is told through the lenses of social media and personal photographs. A photo only shows what you want people to see... not what is actually happening. It shows a smiling Jackie and Anne when really they are on the brink of a divorce. Charlie is seen doing fun stuff on Instagram when really she's feeling lost. Tricia updates her status on Facebook when really she's struggling at work. The point? There's more to life than what your followers see.
CHARLIE: Jackie's quirky millennial daughter who's always on the latest trend and is desperate for a large social media following. She can't hold down a job because she has severe FOMO. She thinks the answer is to become a social media influencer, like so many of her friends. She's a spoiled, rich kid who always gets what she wants from her father, Richard, while only receiving judgment from her mother. She's on a mission to "find herself" and not be defined by who her parents want her to be. Charlie is a lovable mess.
JACKIE: Jackie is the definition of a type-A personality. She's successful at work, but hasn't quite figured out her personal life. She had Charlie with her ex-husband, Richard, at an early age before she had any ambitious plans for herself. When she met Anne and fell hard for her, it changed everything. It softened her edges and allowed her to be vulnerable. After having a family with Anne, she has let herself slip back into her workaholic ways and this is putting stress on their relationship.ANNE: Anne is an artist with a soft heart. She's the opposite of Jackie in every way. She's free spirited, caring, and doesn't take life too seriously. Love and happiness have always been what's most important to her. Despite their differences, Anne believes that Jackie is her soulmate. She wants their little family to succeed, but knows it won't unless Jackie can meet her halfway.
JAMES: James is a college lit professor who wears his heart on his sleeve. He loves being a teacher, being a dad, and most of all, he loved being a husband. When Rose passed away, he felt like she took a piece of him with her. He's not sure how to live his life without her. He's trying to be there for his children while also healing himself.ROSE: Rose was the most loving, warm person in any room. She was the ultimate mom and was completely in love with her husband, James. They had one of those relationships that everyone envied. They teased each other in the best way and were true soulmates. After getting diagnosed with cancer too late, she passed away. She can't move on until she knows her family is OK.
TRICIA: James' younger sister and a junior exec at Jackie's firm. Finding it hard to make her mark in her work, Tricia struggles with the idea of balancing her already complicated work life with her personal life. Taking care of James and the kids takes up all of her "down time." Sensing a need to make a big change in her life, she throws herself at every opportunity. She's battling with accepting a new love interest in her life in the shape of a co-worker whilst trying to excel in a work environment she may not necessarily fit into. With a new rival approaching at work, Tricia starts to rethink her identity as a young person growing up to the next stage of her life.
