'In Between' is the real, modern, multicultural Australia. Set in an inner-Melbourne suburb, the four-part miniseries features the stories of four adolescents from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds: Turkish, Cambodian, Macedonian, and Anglo-Australian. It focuses on the thoughts, emotions, conflicts and pressures forced upon them by both modern society and their traditional backgrounds. It deals with the joy and pain, the despair and happiness of the four central characters and others close to them, drawn together through a local community centre. But although they live in the same area, not all are close friends, and some experience a mixture of hate, distress and doubt about their neighbours. Fatima, Saret, Alex and Angie. They're growing up fast, and growing up can hurt when you're in between.—Chris Warner
