The Ilinden uprising was an organized revolt against the Ottoman Empire prepared and carried out by the Macedonian Revolutionary Organisation IMRO. In the Macedonian town of Krushevo the insurgents proclaimed the so called Krushevo Republic under the presidency of the ethnic Macedonian school teacher Nikola Karev.
