Antonio Bertoli, student and collaborator of Alejandro Jodorowsky and teacher of IPOD School of Psychodrama, connects trans-generational psychoanalysis to the theories of Haley and Erickson and the therapeutic mechanisms of Psychomagic.
The documentary by Ottavio Rosati on the research of Antonio Bertoli is based on the documentation collected in three years of seminars on psycho-genealogy held in Rome at the training school in psychodrama Ipod-Plays.Video shooting did not involve camera movements. The first objective was simple: provide each consultant with a video "picture in picture" that reveals three things: the framing of Bertoli who asked questions and gave explanations, the reaction of the consultant and the design of the genealogical tree that developed during the session.The theoretical approach of Bertoli is complex and distributed in several books. We can summarize it with these words:
"If it is true that the first archetypes of love are the Father and the Mother, then it is also true that these always ask us to be in a certain way, not to be ourselves from the beginning of our adventure in the world, and this is due simply to the fact that they too were children of other parents. The love we feel for them and the quest to be loved in the first place by them causes us to bend to these requests and begin to repress and stifle our true identity, our inner being, from an early age, perhaps even from inside the womb: "We are all abused children", says my dear friend and teacher Alejandro Jodorowsky, meaning that we are not allowed to express ourselves freely since childhood.The trans-generational transmission of the family unconscious, and the parental relationships in the first place, allowed me to focus on the primary causes of psychological distress and certain repetitions by linking them to the primary archetypes, trying to give solutions to the person who consulted me. Already the sole fact of bringing to the level of consciousness a certain mechanism and a certain pathology of the primary archetypes, however, constituted in itself, if not the seventy, at least fifty percent of the healing. I had not yet connected this pathology to somatic and psychiatric manifestations nor did I identify the process of structuring and transmitting the psycho-genetic phantom, nor did I definitively anchor its ultimate origin in Eros and Thanatos.There were already some precise insights and therefore somehow the connection existed, but meeting the work of Didier Dumas and Françoise Dolto on autistic and psychotic children - parallel to the research of Anne Ancelin Schutzenberger the famous psychodramatist of Moreno's school - I started to elaborate a structured theory of " pathology of primary archetypes ". The long experience that I gained with Alejandro Jodorowsky on the psycho-genealogical, psycho-magic and tarot for over 10 years, has also given me the opportunity to verify and learn a considerable amount of cases and genealogical trees, comparing them from time to time with those that remained at the time of pure conjectures and hypotheses. "
