In the 1877-1878 Ottoman-Russian War, four veterans who fought together on the Pleven front gave their commander a martyr during a raid in Pleven. Years later, in the 1915 Dardanelles War, they heard that Lieutenant Yusuf, the nephew of their commander with the same name, was captured.
