Ken and Ruth Marshall are on the run after Ken is able to escape from prison. An investigative journalist in Springfield, Ken was close to proving businessman and gubernatorial candidate Stuart Gaines guilty of graft. Not taking Ken's efforts lightly, Gaines was able to frame him for a crime against which often railed in the newspaper. Generally a straight up guy, Ken felt the need to escape from prison if only because Ruth was and is dealing with a difficult pregnancy all on her own. In trusting the right person, Ken and Ruth are able to establish a new life where no one knows them. It may be just a matter of time before Ken's past catches up with him and Ruth and their new daughter, Penny in more ways than one.—Huggo

Newspaper reporter Ken Marshall, in the course of his investigation of political corruption, uncovers evidence that, if published, will wreck the career of a candidate running for state governor. To prevent the disclosure, Ken is knocked unconscious, soaked with whiskey and then placed at the wheel of a car sent careening down the highway. There is a wreck in which three people are killed. He is sent to jail but manages to escape and five years later, using an assumed name and in another town, he is again reporting when his past, in the form of a prison cellmate, shows up with intentions of blackmailing him.—Les Adams <[email protected]>
