During World War II, an American woman posing as an Italian cabaret owner spies on the Japanese in Manila but becomes the target of a suspicious Japanese intelligence officer.

Begins in documentary style when U.S. Army general Mark Clark authenticates Claire Phillips' adventures and achievements, as an American citizen who rendered invaluable services to her country in Manila during the Japanese occupation, and at the end, when she is presented a medal by a presidential representative: Claire Phillips, a café entertainer in Manila, marries a U.S. soldier on December 8, 1941, after the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese, and when he is killed fighting in the Japanese invasion of the Philippines, she returns to her calling as a means of obtaining and transmitting to the Americans and Filipino guerrillas information, supplies, and services which the Filipino underground uses in its aid to the Allied forces fighting the Japanese invaders. She has narrow escapes from detection and detention, until she is finally exposed as a spy, arrested, convicted, and imprisoned.—Les Adams <[email protected]>

After the Japanese invasion of the Phillipines, an American woman takes the identity of a dead Italian showgirl and spies on the Japanese patrons of a Manila cabaret but her activities raise the suspicion of a Japanese intelligence officer.—nufs68

In the Philippines, Americans John and Claire Phillips got married shortly after the events at Pearl Harbor, that decision to marry due to their more tenuous circumstances, John, a US Army sergeant and Claire, who is in Manila with her adopted adolescent daughter Dian, working as a nightclub singer. Rather than go back to the US mainland with the dangers of being an American in Manila, Claire instead decides to follow John to get as close as she can get to where he is stationed in Corregidor, that decision despite the even increased dangers to herself and needing to leave Dian with her Filipina nanny, Lolita. In the jungles, Claire encounters a ragtag group of orphaned US soldiers, led by Cpl. John Boone, who are now working together as Allied guerrillas, they, along with the underground, trying to thwart the Japanese war effort in whatever way they can. Due to her changed situation since she and John got married, Claire heads back to Manila to work with the guerrillas, not only in getting needed supplies and equipment to them in the jungle, but to gain intel as to Japanese operations. This latter task she can only do effectively in operating in plain sight of the highest ranks of the Japanese military who would not suspect her. But with the greater reward of that intel, the higher the risk which could threaten her life.—Huggo
