Summaries

A stockbroker who moves into a flat finds that he cannot sleep because of the loud whistle blown by the night-watchman. This leads him into conflict with the building's secretary who insists on the use of the whistle.

This energetic black comedy (or drama with a sense of humour) turns a contemporary eye on something that is taken too much for granted in Indian cities, especially Mumbai - private space. It's about the clash between a stockbroker who is not allowed to sleep at night and a small-time trader who won't let him (as the secretary of the building society they live in). This seemingly trivial, even laughable, problem eventually snowballs into disasters for both of them and their families, while unspooling the attitudes of people around them. A very real but highly entertaining portrait of urban India.—Cartwheel, India

Mumbai-based stock-broker, Raj Puri, and his live-in girlfriend, Abha, move into flat 302 of the Night Angel Society. That very night itself Raj is unable to get any sleep due to loud whistling. The next night he investigates, and finds that the culprit is the elderly building watchman, Roger Matthew, who refuses to stop blowing his whistle until and unless he gets instructions from the building secretary, Janardhan Parikh. Raj accordingly meets with the latter, and is told that the whistling cannot stop as it will compromise the security of the residents, but when he insists, he is told to attend the Sunday meeting where he can voice his concerns. After more sleepless nights, Abha and he do attend the meeting and the watchman is instructed to tap the floor with his stick instead of whistling. That night, Raj still finds it very noisy, unable to adjust, his nerves on edge he starts blaming the neighbors for loud music, noisy repairs, as well as errs at his place of employment. Watch what happens when he decides to make a complaint at the local Police Station.—rAjOo ([email protected])
