A soap-operatic mini-series about the history of Hotel Sacher in Vienna. It starts with the takeover by Anna Sacher after her husband Eduard dies at age 59. Most of the time, someone high or low in society seems to be kissing (or more) in one of the chambres séparées.—gpermant-1
The story is told from several perspectives and is set around 1900, when hotelier's widow Anna Sacher fights for the concession of the hotel after the death of her husband. A complicated love story develops in her house when a couple from Berlin meets one from Vienna and two of the partners begin an affair. A dark secret about a kidnapped young woman who suddenly reappears after years and the omens of the First World War unfold against the backdrop of the renowned establishment, where the nobles and the well-off not only stay and eat the famous Sachertorte (the famous chocolate cake from Vienna has been made at Hotel Sacher), but also suffer and give free rein to their feelings. The political and social peculiarities of those last years of the imperial-royal reign are interwoven with the relationship stories in such a way that a realistic picture of the time is conveyed.—Canon y mus
