The old baron of Destelbergen is dying in the ancestral castle. He confides to his son the secret of a great treasure, and the map in a small metal container. The clumsy, socially awkward heir is too occupied with staring a life as lord of the manor and hiring a foxy housekeeper and looses the 'key' in the estate gardens. It's found by a knave playing around with other kids, but after a poacher overhears the new baron promise his manservant Pieter a hefty reward to find it, keeps it after the airhead mother throws away the content of the rascal's trousers, only to end up murdered by Pieter.
