A laidback teacher provides needed guidance about life for a special class of exceptional students.

Charlie Moore (Howard Hesseman) is a struggling New York City actor and director who works as a substitute teacher while awaiting his big break. His current assignment is to "watch over" a class of student prodigies. When he sees them, he sees that Principal Dr. Harold Samuels (William G. Schilling) has more or less shut them out from the rest of the world, so he tries to show them that there's more to life than just studying and winning academic competitions. Samuels doesn't exactly think that he is a positive influence on the students, but when one of the students' parents, who is also on the school board, sees how he got his son to get out of his shell, that he "asked" Samuels to make Moore the permanent teacher. So every week he helps the students with their personal problems, in addition to their academic ones.—[email protected]

Charlie Moore (Howard Hesseman) is an actor in New York City, who unfortunately hasn't had much luck. While waiting for an acting job, he works as a substitute teacher. Presently, he gets a job at Fillmore High School being in charge of a class called the IHP, which, he discovers upon arriving, is class of geniuses. Principal Dr. Harold Samuels (William G. Schilling) expects who ever is there to just keep an eye on them and allow the students to study on their own. But, Moore decides to tell them there are things that can't be found in books, and he also encourages some of the introvert students like Arvid Engen (Dan Frischman) to go out to live life. He also tries to help the students with some personality and attitude problems like Dennis Blunden (Dan Schneider), who likes playing jokes; Eric Mardian (Brian Robbins), the street-smart kid who doesn't like being there; Alan Pinkard (Tony O'Dell), who's a little pompous. And there's also Janice Lazarotto (Tannis Vallely), the 10-year-old genius. After three years, some of the students, Maria Borges (Leslie Bega), and Jawarlahal Choudhury (Joher Coleman), felt it was time to move on. So Viki Amory (Lara Piper), Alex Torres (Michael DeLorenzo), and Aristotle McKenzie (De'voreaux White) joined the IHP. The following year Mr. Moore got his big break, so he left and the new teacher was Billy MacGregor (Sir Billy Connolly), a Scot who liked making jokes to loosen up the students.—[email protected]
