Catherine Cawood is a Police Sergeant in rural Yorkshire. She is very good at her job and her no-nonsense approach is highly effective. However, her stoic exterior hides a host of personal demons and past tragedies: her teenage daughter committed suicide eight years ago, leading to her raising her baby grandson, resulting in her husband divorcing her and her son being estranged from her. Her sister is a recovering drug addict and alcoholic and also lives with her. To crown it all, Tommy Lee Royce, the man who raped her daughter and lead to her committing suicide, the father of her grandson, is about to be released from prison and is likely to head back to the area.—grantss
