Four different stories about young kids' destinies in different time periods in Lithuania.

A film almanac consisting of four short stories. 1) "Living Heroes" - What will young Soviet schoolchildren become - engineers, pilots, sculptures? ... 2) "We Don't Need It" - Lithuania at the beginning of the 20th century. Little Juozakas is taken from school by his parents and sold to a kulak from another farm as a shepherd. But it turns out that he is no longer needed here: the former shepherd has returned. Juozakas is not even allowed to spend the night on the farm. On a dark night, the boy returns home ... 3) "The Last Shot" - In the post-war period, life is revived in a fishing village, new houses are being built. But on the outskirts of the village, in the reeds, an unfinished Lithuanian SS man is hiding. Little Laima meets an armed bandit ... 4) "Nightingale" - World War II. A German punitive detachment is heading to the village of Surmantai. In the forest, the Germans meet a boy imitating the trills of a nightingale. The executioners order him to show them the way.
