Summaries

Local Kenyan husband and wife team Samuel and Peris Nderitu founded "Grow Biointensive Agricultural Center of Kenya" in 2009 to eradicate hunger and poverty by teaching a very simple farming technique that allows farmers to grow more food with less land, water and no chemicals. This self-sustaining technique, called "biointensive", is based on the work of long-time farming activist John Jeavons. Using Jeavons' basic techniques as well as basic principles handed down by their forefathers, Samuel and Peris have transformed a community and have reached over 5000 farmers in Kenya alone. Their "movement" towards sustainable and organic farming continues to spread rapidly as farmers adopt these very simple but wildly successful techniques. GROW explores their inspirational work.—David Mueller
