The film tells a story of Tong kaishan who was sentenced to prison for gambling. He attempted to look for his wife after he had got released from prison. After meeting three children, Tong tried to help them to start a new life. Zhao kuoying, Tong 's friend, hoped to assure his family's safety by sacrificing his own life. Tong and Datou were both working for a debt collection company . Datou's elder brother, Chang, was their boss. However, Datou was thinking of killing his own brother for inheriting family properties. Three groups of characters were intertwined with each other since Chang instructed Tong to collect debt from three children. In the end, the three children were given a chance to a new life, but Tong kaishan and others lost their lives.
