When minister Keith Rollins comes to a backwoods community in Kentucky, he discovers that lawless and political elements are against him and threaten his position with the congregation. His only supporters are his housekeeper and Hope, the daughter of Hellfire Gibbs, a crooked evangelist in league with political boss Jim Boyd. Hope warns Keith of a plot against him, and he beats her father in a fight when he insults her. Later, Keith is lured to her home by a fictitious note and is detained there to prevent his attending a town meeting to answer Boyd's challenge. Meanwhile, Hope convinces Buck Stevens of Keith's innocence, and they aid his escape. He returns to expose the political boss and win the love of Hope.—Pamela Short
