Kumar is a very wealthy businessman and lives a comfortable lifestyle with his lovely wife, Asha, in a palatial house. The only thing missing from their lives is a son. When Asha gets pregnant, Kumar knows that all his dreams will be fulfilled and his business will be known as "Kumar & Son". Unfortunately, Asha has a miscarriage which results in her death as well as in the death of their son. A devastated Kumar takes to alcohol and devotes his energy and finances to a school for needy children in scenic Mussoorie. It is here he gets to meet the College Principal's daughter, Kiran, who he knows is in love with a fellow-collegian, Ravi. When Ravi takes part in the annual car rally, his vehicle is sabotaged and he is reportedly killed. But Ravi survives and with the help of his parents wants to return to Mussoorie. Before that could happen, Kiran's father tells them that Kiran is no more, throwing Ravi into a relapse. Months later Ravi does recover, but refuses to get married. Then five years later he finds out that there is going to be another car rally there and despite of his parents' objections, he travels to Mussoorie and this is where he will find out that Kiran is still alive and even has a son, and her husband is none other than the wealthy widower - Kumar. Unfortunately, Asha has a miscarriage which results in her and her son's deaths. At the hospital, Kumar has an accident while saving a child from hitting a hospital gurney. Due to this he loses his ability to father any more kids.A devastated Kumar takes to alcohol and devotes his energy and finances to a school for needy children in scenic Mussoorie. Kumar is the Chairman of the Board for the school. The principal of the school knows that Kumar misses a kid in his life and is desperate for one.
The school Principal's (Om Shivpuri) daughter, Kiran (Neelam), is in love with a fellow collegian, Ravi (Chunky Pandey).Ravi is a race car driver and Kiran falls in love with his charm, persistence and good looks. Before falling for Ravi, Kiran had eyes for Ravi's race car rival Vicky. Vicky is a brash, rich brat and does not like that Kiran has chosen Ravi before him. Kiran insults Vicky by saying that he doesn't have the looks to be her boyfriend.The principal warns Kiran not to take a rash step in her relationship with Ravi. Ravi calls his parents and informs them that he is in love with Kiran. That night Ravi and Kiran get stuck in a storm and spend a night together in an abandoned shelter.A few days later Kumar warns Ravi to stay away from Kiran. Vicky and his elder brother try to sexually assault Kiran, but Ravi arrives on time and fights them off. Vicky is rusticated from college.
When Ravi participates in the annual car rally, his vehicle is sabotaged by Vicky's brother, and he is reportedly killed. But the school principal discovers that his daughter is pregnant with Ravi's child. Kiran refuses to abort the child.
When Kumar learns of this, he agrees to lend his own name to the unborn child. Kiran marries Kumar and they lead a happy married life, though Kumar never had physical relation with Kiran as he is impotent anyways.
A son is born, and Kumar rears the child as his own, completely ignoring his duties towards his wife. He names the child Suraj. Kumar also give up alcohol as he has a reason to live now.Meanwhile, Ravi survives and is found by a doctor, who finds his parents address in his wallet. With the help of his parents (Father (Shafi Inamdar)) Ravi recovers and eventually wants to return to Mussoorie.
Before that could happen, Kiran's father tells Ravi's parents that Kiran is no more as she committed suicide, throwing Ravi into a relapse. Months later Ravi does recover but refuses to get married.
Then five years later he finds out that there will be another car rally there and despite his parents' objections, he travels to Mussoorie.Ravi meets Suraj on the streets of Mussoorie, just like he met Kiran. Ravi befriends Suraj and teaches him how to drive a car. Suraj falls sick and asks Kiran to go to his friend and tell him that Suraj cannot meet him.When Ravi sees Kiran, he realizes that Kiran is still alive and even has a son, and her husband is none other than the wealthy widower - Kumar.Kumar meanwhile dotes on Suraj and cannot live without him.
Ravi must now find out why Kiran's father lied to him, and whether or not Kiran wanted to marry Kumar because of his wealth.Kiran's father tells Kiran that he told a lie to Ravi because he didn't want to betray Kumar, and also did not want to cause any harm to Ravi. He thought this was the best way out given the circumstances.
Due to his mental agony, Ravi has a car accident, and he is found unconscious by Kumar. Kumar brings Ravi home. Kumar knows that Ravi is Suraj's biological father.The next morning Ravi leaves Kumar's home without telling anyone. Ravi wants to leave town, but Suraj reaches Ravi's home and stops him from leaving. Suraj considers Ravi his best friend.
Kumar is distraught that Suraj now loves Ravi than he loves him. Kumar starts drinking alcohol again. Suraj forces Kumar to invite Ravi to his birthday party and won't cut the cake without him. Kumar gets even more depressed as he can see the Chemistry between Suraj and Ravi.
Ravi wins the car rally he competes in. But as Suraj runs to congratulate Ravi, he comes in front of a speeding jeep and is thrown several feet in the air. Ravi donates his blood to save Suraj.Ravi realizes that Suraj is his son. When Suraj revives, Ravi leaves the hospital and confronts Kiran. Kumar overhears this conversation and confirms that Suraj is Ravi's son.
Ravi wants to take Suraj away, but Kumar stops him. Kiran tells Ravi exactly what Kumar did for her and Suraj. Kiran says that Kumar never touched her once and loves Suraj more than she ever could. Ravi is heartbroken and decides to leave town. Kumar shoots himself as this was the only solution to this conundrum.
