An animated adaptation of the long-running manga series "Glass Mask" (1976-2012) by Suzue Miuchi. The story initially focuses on the 13-year-old waitress Maya Kitajima, who has a poor relationship with her abusive mother. Maya has a growing passion for acting and a raw talent for improvisation. Her talent is recognized by the retired actress Chigusa Tsukikage who decides to take Maya under her wing and train her. Chigusa is a former street urchin who gained fame by playing the title role of the Crimson Goddess in a famous play. She currently holds exclusive rights to the play and she wants to train a successor for the role. Maya soon meets her primary rival for the role, the former child prodigy Ayumi Himekawa. Ayumi comes from a wealthy show business family, and she is the daughter of a famous actress. The girl wants to succeed on her own merits and to surpass her mother's career achievements. Ayumi has superior experience and technical skills in comparison to Maya, but she is less skilled at providing emotional depth to her roles and stealing the show. The two rivals are increasingly dedicated to their chosen craft, while facing several problems in both their personal and professional lives.—Dimos I
