A guilt-ridden mother gets an offer to uncover her missing son's fate, but at a disturbing cost. Her decision on how far she'll go for redemption drives the story.
A recovering drug addict, desperate for closure and saddled by crushing guilt after the disappearance of her young son, is presented with a bizarre offer to learn the truth about what happened and set things right - if she is willing to pay a terrifying price. How dark is she willing to go for a chance at redemption?
Seven years after her five-year-old son Noah was kidnapped and murdered while she and her then-husband Wyatt were strung out on heroin, police find recovering drug addict Cora Loewen covered in blood in her home. Through flashbacks, Cora explains what happened to investigating officer Alison Bray, who is also Cora's older sister.
Seemingly sympathizing with her ongoing struggle, Able, who leads a support group for grieving parents, claims he was able to resurrect his dead daughter through an occult ritual. Able convinces Cora he is telling the truth by proving his daughter now lives in another city under a different name. After much skepticism, Cora eventually agrees to Able's plan to resurrect Noah through the same elaborate bartering ritual involving mantras and salt circles.
During the days-long ritual, a supernatural entity known as "The Seeker" shows Cora a vision of Noah's kidnapping and death. The Seeker ultimately possesses Able before a paranormal presence pulls him away. Following Able's disappearance, Cora continues the ritual on her own by sacrificing a goat to the entity.
Inside another vision, Able's presence continues guiding Cora through the ritual. Able becomes frustrated when Cora deliberately disobeys a specific instruction. Able insists that Cora must carry The Seeker to the next soul that needs it, but Cora concludes that Able merely groomed her so he could pass the cursed entity from him to her. Cora refuses to continue.
When she suddenly returns to reality, The Seeker threatens Cora with unending suffering. To appease the supernatural creature's wrath, Cora summons her abusive ex Wyatt to the house. The Seeker refuses to take Wyatt as a sacrifice due to his drug addiction, but kills him anyway.
Traumatized by Wyatt's violent death, Cora calls 911, which leads to police discovering her covered in blood. Upon finishing the interview with her sister Alison, Cora insists that they need to return to the house to complete the ritual for Noah's sake. Despite Cora's pleas, Alison imprisons her for Wyatt's apparent murder. While The Seeker continues speaking to Cora in her jail cell, Alison goes to the house alone and is shocked to be greeted by a resurrected Noah. (thanks to culturecrypt)
