Anne Woodstock, a singer, is engaged to district attorney Christopher Armstrong and is a patient of Dr. Kasimir, a Hindu hypnotist-physician, who presumably restores her voice. By a ruse, he lures Anne to his office and hypnotizes her; the next day, Anne, who remembers nothing of the occurrence, leaves for Europe and Kasimir is found murdered in his office. His attendant, Jennie Dunn, who possesses money taken from the safe, is accused of the crime. "Smith," another member of Kasimir's household, identifies a pin found near the body and swears it was worn by Jennie. Anne, returning from her trip, remembers that she was present on the fatal night and insists on her guilt. Jennie then confesses, but Smith explains that she killed Kasimir in a jealous rage.—AFI
Singer Anne Woodstock and District Attorney Christopher Armstrong have an understanding. But Anne wishes to postpone their engagement until she recovers her singing voice. When other treatments fail, she seeks out Dr. Joseph Kasimir, a Hindu physician and hypnotist. While under Kasimir's treatment, Anne's voice is revived, and believing he is solely responsible, becomes one of his faithful followers. She asks Kasimir to employ a young girl named Jennie Dunn whom Anne once saved from a severe prison sentence.
Meanwhile, Armstrong, unaware that Anne has been consulting with Kasimir, is leading an investigation into the doctor's practices, suspecting fraud. When Armstrong learns Anne has been seeing the hypnotist, he makes her promise never to see him again, although Anne still believes in Kasimir. Anne, about to leave for Europe, agrees to see Kasimir once more before she departs. Kasimir hypnotizes her, intending to take her to South America. Several hours later, Anne comes to and discovers she has been brought home by Jennie. That evening, Kasimir is found dead. Anne, on her way to Europe, hears nothing of this until she arrives overseas. She then learns that Jennie has been accused, since the girl was in possession of money which was in Kasimir's safe.
Anne returns to America to help the girl. Kasimir's housekeeper testifies that she saw Jennie wearing a pin which was later found in Kasimir's hand. Anne suddenly remembers she was wearing the pin, and not Jennie. Anne confesses to the murder. Then Kasimir's housekeeper confesses that she saw Kasimir with Anne, and in a fit of jealousy, killed the doctor. Anne and Jennie are cleared.
