Kevin, Sam and Rob are founding members of a theoretical group which pulls off heists. Leo, a gangster, blackmails them into pulling off a real multi-million dollar heist. Now it's up to them to get out alive.

Twenty-something Torontonians and friends Kevin, Sam and Rob play a game they call Foolproof: they plan foolproof heists, but without the intention of actually carrying them out. They have a few rules in the game, including the three having the necessary technical and physical abilities to carry out the tasks required for the heist, the plan cannot include loaded guns, and there is no violence meaning that no one gets hurt. They try to be as meticulous if not more so than the best high stakes thieves. The fun is in knowing they could do it if they truly wanted. Their collective lives change when someone breaks into Sam's apartment and steals their latest plan for a jewelry warehouse heist. After the warehouse is hit, the culprit identifies himself to them as Leo 'The Touch' Gillette, a known but never convicted high stakes thief who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. He tells them that the break-in at Sam's apartment was not by accident, and that part of his grand plan is to use them to map and carry out a $20 million theft of bonds for him. Since he has evidence of their involvement in the warehouse heist, they feel they have no other option but to help him. Their friendship is tested as they try to figure out how best to get themselves out of this predicament, sometimes each looking out solely for him or herself. But their view of helping The Touch may change as they actually begin to work on a real heist with real stakes.—Huggo

Things get even worse when a mysterious man approaches them with an offer: plan a heist for him, or go to jail. As the clock ticks, they find that the risk might be higher than just their freedom.—Anthony

Synopsis

Kevin (Ryan Reynolds), Sam (Kristin Booth), and Rob (Joris Jarsky) are playing a game, known as "Foolproof", in which they create working plans to infiltrate and burgle various targets. They do not actually execute these heists, preferring to simply simulate them using necessary technical and physical abilities to carry out the tasks required for the heist. They adhere to some rules, such as using identical equipment and infrastructure as the target and using no firearms of any kind. The trio have a large warehouse where they practice the various maneuvers needed to infiltrate their target. Kevin prides himself on his foolproof planning and flawless execution for his spotless track record.Rob wants to start using their skills to make money, by stealing stuff like diamonds and fencing them. Kevin and Sam are not OK with the idea.

Kevin has a job as an Insurance Claims appraiser at a General Insurance company where he routinely uncovers fraudulent claims such as when customers set fire to their own property and make it look like an accident. Maggie (Tara Slone) is the receptionist at the firm.

All is fine until a famous criminal, Leo Gillette (David Suchet), breaks into Sam's apartment, steals the trio's plans for a jewelry warehouse heist. Now, Kevin had approached the said jewelry store himself earlier in the day, impersonating a courier delivery person, and taken photographs to complete his study of their target.Kevin and Sam call the manager of the Jewelry store and inform him how they had created plans to hack their security and now those plans have been stolen. The next day, detective Mason informs Kevin that the jewelry store has been robbed. Mason says that he received an anonymous tip that Kevin might be involved in the heist.

Leo then blackmails the group into designing and executing a plan to steal $20 million in bonds from a bank. Since he has evidence incriminating them in the plans (he plants some of the stolen diamonds at Sam's apartment, Kevin's office drawer and Rob's keyboard. Also, Leo has their fingerprints on the papers and the blueprints that they used for planning the heist, which are now with Leo), they accept.Leo says that one of his men had spotted Kevin staking out the jeweler several times. And Leo had Kevin followed and that's how he came to learn about foolproof.

Leo says that the bonds are numbered and hence the bank cannot know that the bonds have been stolen. They have to be "replaced" in a way that nobody notices anything. Rob suggests forging fake bonds to replace the real ones. The group needs a card to enter the bank and the pass-code to open the safe. They find a bank employee who is into phone sex and uses the office at night. They decide to use Sam to seduce him and clone his card and bust his pass-code. This way no red flags would go up when they use the card to enter the bank at night.

Tension escalates within the group as Rob befriends Leo, while Kevin and Sam attempt to hinder his plans. They get the security codes to the vault and Leo gets the bonds forged. At one point, Sam gets a loaded gun on Leo, but Rob stands in her way and won't allow her to shoot Leo. After Rob disarms Sam, Leo slaps Sam.The last hurdle is the 8-digit code to the safe. After 3 wrong attempts, an alarm gets triggered. The gang gets into the vault room without much hassle, by using the elevator shaft as their way in. Rob installs a camera in the ceiling of the bank President, while Sam triggers the alarm by entering the wrong code twice and the first few digits of the 3rd attempt are also input. The trio then exit the bank.

The next day, the bank President enters the correct pass-code, without knowing that a few digits of the 3rd attempt are already input, thereby inputting a wrong code and this triggering the alarm. As the Bank president is handed the new pass-code by a security officer, the camera installed by Rob records everything and now the gang has the vault code as well. But the code was Pixilated and not all the digits were captured properly. Rob manages to work the picture with algorithms and extracts the complete code.

The situation turns against them when Leo and Rob force Kevin into an elevator and crash it. When they go to retrieve the bonds, Sam shoots Rob, and then Leo shoots Sam. With the three friends dead, Leo leaves with the bonds.

It is later revealed that the friends had switched Leo's gun, giving him one loaded with blanks. Sam and Kevin get up and are greeted by Rob. When Leo gets back to his place, he sees a fire started by the gang to destroy evidence against them and planted evidence against Leo on the latest burglary. Leo is taken in custody by Detective Mason (James Allodi), while the friends drive away in their car.
