The tale of life of Mineko, a young maiko (apprentice geisha) in the Gion district of Kyoto. The story is based on the autobiography of the famous retired geisha Mineko Iwasaki, whose life was also partly an inspiration to the famous book and film "Memoirs of a Geisha".
