Mihail, a Canadian immigrant, is sent to his country of origin 30 years after leaving it with his daughter Rose. Forced to face the past he wanted to forget, he will measure the cost of their uprooting on his damaged bounds with her.
Mihail works as a curator for a private art collection. Originally from Bulgary, he settled in Canada with his daughter Roza almost 30 years ago. Wanting to move forward, Mihai multiplies his integration efforts: "Roza" becomes "Rose" and French is the only language spoken at home. Over the years, their origins become a taboo at home... Until the day Mihai is asked to investigate the case of a young Bulgarian painter prodigy. And to return to his homeland for work. At first, Mihail resists the idea. But his daughter, in the midst of a divorce crisis, senses that her relationship problem has deeper roots. She confronts her father about their denial of their past. A quarrel erupts between them, weakening their relationship. Sensing that this trip would rehabilitate his bond with his daughter, Mihail finally decides to leave. The trip to Bulgaria will plunge Mihail back into his past ghosts. Through the young painter prodigy, Mihail sees his own daughter. The child is also destined to leave... and lose everything she knows. Thus, Mihail will be led to revisit his migration from his daughter's perspective; to recognize the emotional cost of their uprooting.
