Mob attorney Walter Colby is manipulated by showgirl Flaxy Martin into taking the rap for a murder committed by mobster Hap Richie's goons, but he escapes and tries to get revenge.
Unscrupulous showgirl Flaxy Martin involves young attorney Walter Colby with mobster Hap Richie. A girl is murdered, with the evidence pointing to Flaxy, and Colby takes the rap and gets a 20-year sentence. San Malko gives Colby the clue to the real killer, and, en route to prison, he escapes and is found by Nora Carson, who shelters him. After escaping from one of Richie's gunmen, Walter heads for Flaxy's apartment, where she admits she double-crossed him.—Les Adams <[email protected]>
Walt Colby is the straitlaced attorney for the legitimate businesses of mobster Hap Richie's syndicate. Walt is thinking about getting out in not liking Hap asking him to work on the criminal side, such as defending Hap's associates in their criminal dealings, including charges of murder. What Walt wants to do in getting out is marry his girlfriend, lounge singer Flaxy Martin. While Walt is aware of Flaxy's association to Hap in having met her through him, he is unaware that Flaxy is unofficially on his payroll, among her duties to monitor what Walt does so that Hap can better manipulate him. In a measure meant to protect and save Flaxy, Walt is convicted of a murder he didn't commit. Walt has to decide what to do to save himself, and what to do about Flaxy if he does believe she was complicit in setting him up. What may factor into his decisions is a chance meeting with Nora Carson, a Good Samaritan who has reasons of her own for helping a stranger. What may also factor into what happens is if Flaxy gains a conscience.—Huggo
