Synopsis

The fragmentary nature of Iraq's past present and future is represented through a young Iraqi film maker on his first trip to his homeland. Lovers, clochards, drifters, the family, the street, are all subjects previously used in french post war humanism, reestablished by the filmmaker into his own reality in post war modern day Iraq.

The poetic documentary is about Hashem Zaini, an Iraqi film production student embarking on his first journey to his homeland. The film outlines five fragmented but yet in-depth ways of seeing Iraq from the inside, as opposed to what is seen in mainstream television.

The film uses the aesthetic structure of french post war humanist photography to emphasize the documentary feel of the film. Although the film is presents reality, it does not neglect the past and the future, it only re-presents the time-line in poetic and sometimes surreal terms.

The poetry narrated is inspired from modern and classic literature, both western and eastern. Some of the main influences on the film's poetry are T.S Eliot, Omar Al Khayyam's couplets, and the story of Nimrod in the Bible.
