Nastya, a kind and naive girl, returns home after boarding school. Her family lives in poverty, but Nastya is not afraid of difficulties - she is a great house-painter, and there will always be work for her. However, the girl soon realizes that she is unwanted in her family. The drunk stepfather is not happy with the new tenant, and her mother became completely alien. Suddenly, fate seems to smile at Nastya - the governor's son Pavel, who arrived in the village for a song contest, is fascinated by the girl, and they start dating. But when Nastya discovers that she is pregnant, it turns out that Pavel has completely opposite plans for life.
