Summaries

A story of love, meetings and separations.

Marta, a newly graduated doctor, lives with her father on Faial Island. She falls in love with Salvador, a Ribatejo man who decides to sail to the United States. Ten years later, after her father's death, Marta reveals to Maria, the daughter of that passion, that they no longer have ties to the Azores. Emotionally, Maria bids farewell to the sea, as her mother always taught her that she was "Daughter of the Sea". Marta is assigned to work as a doctor in Santarém, where she discovers that Salvador, now married to Sofia and father of Tomás, lives. Maria and Tomás, who become great friends, end up revealing to Marta that Salvador is alive. As for Maria, she never knew who her father was; she was told that the sea of the Azores watched over everyone and witnessed the great love that conceived her as the daughter of the sea.
