Summaries

The press as well as the general public opinion suggest that Inspector Juve may in fact be Fantômas, the very criminal mastermind he tries to capture. But as Juve is imprisoned, the actual Fantômas schemes to keep him behind bars forever.

As inspector Juve seems to be unable to put Fantômas behind bars the Press comes up with the idea Juve must be Fantômas himself! Juve is soon jailed as an attempt to ease the stress on his case. Synopsis

Jérôme Fandor reads in a newspaper an accusation that Fantômas and Inspector Juve are the same person which upsets him.

Inspector Juve is called before Judge Fuselier who has also heard the rumors and leaves his rate up the public prosecutor. The prosecutor angrily questions Juve and orders his arrest.

Part Two: The Wall That Bleeds

A local bank messenger visits apartments to collect tax money. He first visits Father Moche before going to Moche's neighbor above him, Paulet.

As he enters Paulet's apartment, he is knocked in the head with a the man, who was hiding behind the door. Father Moche hears the commotion and quietly goes upstairs to investigate. He sneaks into Paulet's apartment and sees the unconscious messenger. He takes the messenger's bag filled with the collected money and hides it in his own safe.

Shortly after hiding the money, Father Moche is visited by one of his new tenants. While discussing potential renovations with the tenants, Paulet and a woman arrive and enter Father Moche's office. Father Moche sends the tenant away before confronting the two invaders.

The man attempts to stab Father Moche, but he easily disarms him and knocks both to the ground. Father Moche sits the two do and appears to strike a deal to keep the money.

The French Inspectors are scolded by the Chief of Police for their inability to find the money and the messenger and the humiliation over the Americans sending an investigator to assist them.

Back at the apartment Father Moche owns, the renovations that he was discussing with his tenants are now nearly completed. However, shortly before finishing the job, the man doing the wallpaper is approached by Paulet. He tells the wallpaper to leave. He begins to nail into the wall but flees once it appears to start bleeding.

The police investigate the wall, and a man nearby suggests breaking a whole into the wall which he does. The police discover the corpse of the missing bank messenger, and the man introduces himself as the American detective, Tom Bob.

Lady Beltham, Fantômas' former partner and ex-mistress, has since married and became Grand Duchess Alexandra. She is visited by Tom Bob, who she immediately recognizes as Fantômas. She begs for his forgiveness.

Fantômas orders Lady Beltham to write to the papers, offering a large reward to be given to whoever can catch Fantômas.

Part Three: Fantômas vs. Fantômas

Believing that Fantômas will attend the ball that the Grand Duchess is throwing to give out the reward for the capture of Fantômas, Fandor dons Fantômas' former costume, the Man in Black, to sneak into the gala which is to be masked and costumed.

The Chief of Police is also attending the ball but is humiliated by it and the Grand Duchess' need to offer her own reward for the capture. One of the police offers has the same idea as Fandor and dressed up as the Man in Black to attend the ball.

Lady Beltham greets guests at the ball and is approached by one of the Man in Black, who begins dancing with Lady Beltham. The two Man in Blacks eventually notice each other and get into a brief quarrel outside of the villa and walk off into the woods. They are followed by a third Man in Black. He hides once he hears one of the two Man in Blacks returning alone to the party.

The Man in Black that was hiding continues the path they were on, finding the other Man in Black stabbed and killed. The Man in Black removes his mask to reveal himself as Fandor, while removing the corpse's mask, revealing him to be the Inspector.

The other Man in Black returns to the party and requests medical help for a large gash on his arm. He is bandaged up and leaves the party.

Fandor, now back in disguise, returns to the party and tells Lady Beltham about the corpse. Some of the attendees, including the Chief of Police, run to the field where they discover the corpse.

The man who helped bandage the Man in Black gives this info to the Chief of Police. The Chief of Police goes to the Judge Fuselier to request permission to check Juve's arm for a similar wound believed to be on Fantômas.

The police enter Juve's cell and struggle to awake him from his sleep, discovering that he has been drugged. Juve is woken up and discovers blood on his sleeve and reveals a fresh gash on his arm that he does not recall receiving.

Juve asks to see the cup he has been drinking out of and they all immediately smell some other substance in there. The entire staff of guards are brought before Juve so he can look through them. He identifies Nibbet as one of Fantômas' co-conspirators and both a vial of drugs and a bloody knife are found on Nibbet. Nibbet is arrested and taken away, while Juve is released from prison.

Part Four: Getting Even

Paulet leads a group of ruffians in demanding more money from their previous heists. Father Moche presents a letter signed by Fantômas putting Father Moche in charge while he is in prison and urging patience until he is released.

Fandor, who has continued the investigation, hears this discussion and follows Father Moche. Moche enters a nearby stone barn with a safe and enters a cellar door. Fandor follows Moche into the building and through the cellar door. Through a peep hole, Fandor sees Moche hiding the safe under a plank in the floor. Fandor hides as Moche comes back up and leaves the barn. Fandor is unable to escape from the barn and goes to the cellar.

Juve is reinstated to the National Police but is ordered not to interfere in the investigation and his release is meant to be kept secret. Fandor and Judge Fuselier are attacked and bounded by a group of men pretending to be contractors. The men leave with the tied up Juve.

The group returns to the barn where Fandor hides inside a barrel once he hears them approach. The demand that Juve reveal if he is Fantômas and demand that he pays them their fair share. Fandor reveals his location to Juve through a hole in the barrel and tells him to admit to being Fantômas and reveal the safe that Moche hid earlier. The group finds the safe which placates them.

At a local police station near Moche's hideout, the local chief meets with Tom Bob who tells him that he knows where Fantômas is.

The group in the barn here the police arrive but Juve's urges them calm revealing he can handle the police. Juve reveals himself to the local police before leading the group out to their arrests.

Juve questions how the police were able to find them and the local office tells them about the tip from Tom Bob but then notices the detective is nowhere to be seen. Juve realizes that Moche and Tom Bob were Fantômas in disguise who set-up the whole thing to keep the loot for himself. However, Juve tells them they still have one chance to get Fantômas. He is certain to attempt to steal the reward money from the Grand Duchess.

Fantômas, in his Tom Bob disguise, sneaks into the Grand Duchess' room and is confronted by her. He retrieves the money and sneaks out of the villa but his quickly captured by Juve and Fandor. However, as they lead him away he is able to fight them off and escape.
