Summaries

Malin Lindström (born 1980) disappeared without a trace on 23 November 1996 after a bus journey between Örnsköldsvik and Husum. Despite extensive search efforts her body was not found till 22 May 1997 in the woods. Malin Lindström had been stabbed to death and subjected to sexual violence. In August 1998, a suspected perpetrator was convicted of murder in the District Court but was later acquitted in October 1998 in the Court of Appeal. In May 2022, the Supreme Court granted a revision in the case based on new DNA evidence, whereby the previously suspected perpetrator was detained pending a new trial. On July 19, the Court of Appeal for Nedre Norrland sentenced 44-year-old Olof Wiberg to five years in prison, where the sentence was chosen taking into account the man's youth at the time of the crime and the long time that has now passed since the crime.—Expressen TV
