Doctor Rudolfs spends the summer in the countryside where he meets teacher Laura, the mother of two children and whose husband is in prison. Rudolfs falls in love with Laura but she struggles with a sense of duty to her family.

While on vacation on a lake a divorced physician Rudolf becomes acquainted with Laura, a school teacher whose husband is serving time in prison. What brings the two together is their yearning desire for creating a harmonious, life-long relationship. While Rudolf is straightforward in making his choice, Laura is indecisive.
