The tragic story of one man, one building and one love. A story about Jan Kaplický (1937-2009), a charismatic architect of the Czech origin and his biggest struggle in life. The documentary which was shot over a three year period in the UK, the Czech Republic and Italy pictures the peripetia in Kaplicky's winning proposal for the new National Library building in Prague: from the architect's joy of winning the competition, through the passionate social discussion about his radical project and the questioning of the architect's first price, to Kaplicky's sudden tragical death and cancellation of the planned building. The movie depicts not only one of the most known Czech political-social cases but it also tells about extraordinary artistic visions of a considerable personality in the world of architecture and his fight for realising these visions.
