He decidesto take the helm. Meanwhile, ruthless Sheriff Ruth Paisley is amidst a heated car chase with a rustypickup truck. The truck makes a daring escape. That night, a man sits by the fire: Rick Rampart. The pickup truck from earlier sits at a makeshift camp. The crickets ring into the night as the radio drones on about $10,000 worth of stolen tires and an escaped criminal.

The next day, Eli stumbles through a sermon. As his few churchgoers leave, he confronts the Lord. He pleads for help. Suddenly, a man steps into the sanctuary. He asks for forgiveness. Eli agrees. In a confessional booth, he sits with none other than Rick Rampart. It Isn't long before Eli realizes who Rick is. Rick scrambles to leave, explaining how his plan for one last robbery, and an "retirement" in New Orleans isn't worth it anyway. The preacher prods him for more. Intrigued, Eli asserts himself as the getaway driver. Rick agrees. The two meet in the morning at Twin Oaks bank. Rick enters with a Marlboro duffle. He pulls his revolver on the teller, only for the teller to pull a rifle in return! The teller silently alerts Sheriff Paisley and she isn't far away. The standoff escalates and the teller is shot. Sheriff Paisley arrives and triesto assist the teller. Rick and the preacher escape. Rick and the preacher bury the hot money quickly at the church's cemetery.

They drop the getaway pickup at a scrapyard, and Rick flips a scrap vehicle to get back to themoney unnoticed. After a daring escape at a county road block, Rick, Pastor Bailey, and a Sheriff Paisley hot on theirtrail, meet in the cemetery in a 3 way standoff. Rick weighs his options. He decides to turn himselfin if the Sheriff lets the Preacher go and let him take the $10,000 reward.
