The film depicts the life of a monk-sculptor in the 17TH century who is said to have carved 120,000 Buddhist images in his whole life for those who were beset by grief.He was a monk who stood shoulder to shoulder with the weakest in society.His carvings remained for over three centuries and today still bring us comfort. Although Japan was hit by a devastating earthquake and tsunami,the gentle faint smile of the figures reminds us to live life for today and tomorrow no matter what difficulties we face.
